Rapid intervention by anyone who witnesses a CPA is therefore essential, based on specific and properly structured procedures – the chain of survival. The recommended procedures, when properly executed, can substantially reduce the mortality rates associated with CA and significantly increase the victim's probability of survival. Goals: Acquire skills that allow you to correctly perform Basic Life Support (BLS) maneuvers on an adult victim in cardiorespiratory arrest. ▪ Understand the concept of chain of survival; ▪ Identify potential risks for the resuscitator; ▪ Know how to recognize a victim in PCR; ▪ Know how to activate emergency medical services in a cardiac arrest situation; ▪ Know how to correctly perform BLS maneuvers; ▪ Know how and in what situations a victim is placed in a Lateral Safety Position (PLS); ▪ Identify situations of airway obstruction.
